Did you know that I started my very first business nearly twenty years ago, and I did this because my underlying desire and need was for freedom. I had just discharged from the Royal Australian Air Force, which was a fabulous time in my life, but I knew deep within me that I couldn’t move to a normal 9-5 career. I needed to have the freedom that allowed me to work when I wanted to work, the freedom to work with whom I wanted to, and freedom to enjoy my life and my lifestyle. Working for myself, was the only way.
However, when I started my first business, you could imagine, I made a number of mistakes! And because I don’t what you to make the same mistakes, I'd like to share them with you.
My first mistake was that I didn’t see my business as a business. Looking back – I really treated it like a hobby. I was so concerned with being all things to all people that I didn’t stop to look at what money was coming in the door. I was running myself ragged, working for almost nothing, and not enjoying my days. Life wasn’t much fun, in fact I felt like I didn’t have any freedom at all.
My second mistake was not focusing on the marketing of my business, I thought I could have a business and everyone would know about it – boy, was I wrong. I spent endless hours working with the wrong type of clients, not focusing on any marketing at all and wondering why I felt like I was chasing my tail. Something had to change! I began to research and look at the importance of marketing for my business and the impact it could have to change what I was doing. Now people ask me to work with them and show them how to market their businesses more effectively.
My third mistake, which for me was the real eye opener, was that I didn’t have the right frame of mind to be successful. I thought I did, heck – I was a runner & triathlete who competed in marathons and ironman triathlons – I knew what it was to be successful, right? Wrong. I knew what it was on a conscious level, but at that time I didn’t understand fully, on a sub-conscious level. I didn’t get how important is was to really feel what this was like, to go beyond the surface level and dive deeper into my desires and my emotions – to really feel what success felt like.
Twenty years ago I didn’t realise the impact that these three mistakes would have on my business, now I do and I’ve shown hundreds of entrepreneurs and small business owners, just like you, how to create the business they deserve AND have time to enjoy the rewards of success - simply by teaching them three simple steps.
Whether you are just starting out or have been in business for years, there are easy and practical ways you can refine your business basics to achieve your desired profits.
